my day

Today was okay, but I was stabbed in the gut by some guy named Twist. It was outside of NBC. He said he was protesting the portrayal of Nigerian drug-smuggling priests on television. He was also upset by Master P's refusal to wear appropriate shoes on "Dancing with the Stars." I tried to tell him I had nothing to do with any of those things and that he had the wrong network, but it's hard when blood is gushing out of your side.

Luckily, NBC is right down the street from St. Joseph's, so I ran there and underwent surgery. During the surgery, I started walking towards a white light... I think I saw Nell Carter, wielding a vacuum, coming toward me, so I got scared and ran back the other way.

After I was released from the hospital, there was a press conference. The police had just caught Twist and I was there to publicly thank the Burbank men in blue for bringing Twist to justice. I was asked if I had anything to say to my attacker, so I turned to Twist and said, "Did I disappoint you? Or leave a bad taste in your mouth? You act like you never had love and you want me to go without. Well it's... too late, tonight, to drag the past out into the light. We're one, but we're not the same. We get to carry each other, carry each other. One..."

At which point, Twist interjected with, "Actually, I wanted to..." but I silenced him by placing a stern hand on his shoulder and gently scolded, "Not until the big finish, my friend." Two spotlights popped on behind me (backlighting is always more flattering) and I gripped the sides of the podium. "Have you come here for forgiveness? Have you come to raise the dead? Have you come here to play Jesus to the lepers in your head? Did I ask too much? More than a lot? You gave me nothing, now it's all I got. We're one, but we're not the same. Well, we hurt each other, then we do it again. You say, love is a temple, love is a higher law. Love is a temple, love is the higher law. You ask me to enter, but then you make me crawl and I can't be holding on to what you got, when all you got is hurt. One love. One blood. One life. You got to do what you should."

After the thunderous applause died down, I went to give Twist a hug of forgiveness. And then the sonofabitch stabbed me again.
