vacation, part 1
DAY 1
i drove up to monterey bay with haeran, ellen and james. it was freezing up there! james told us about an outlet mall in monterey called the american tin cannery outlet. our dreams of fabulous deals were dashed upon arriving at what has got to be the most depressing, sad little outlet mall in the world.
later we went to cannery row and had dinner at the fish hopper. the best thing there was the free samples of clam chowder. i love clam chowder... it's my favorite soup.
DAY 2
paigie and eric drove down. paigie and ellen separately had run-ins with a local mcdonald's worker with an unfortunate face. then we all went to the aquarium, where we saw all sorts of fun sea creatures. there's a lot of scary stuff that live in the water... i'm glad i live on land.
we also drove the 17 mile drive. it was scenic, i guess. i was kinda hoping for pirates or a haunted mansion or at the very least a chorus of international children singing about how small the world is.
we ran around carmel looking for a good restaurant. the locals were useless. we ended up at a bad italian place. i had misgivings simply based on the generic decor. ex-mayor clint eastwood obviously didn't care about attracting good restaurants for the city.
afterwards, we hung out in the jacuzzi which was at first too cold, then too hot. then we all got dressed to go clubbing... and fell asleep. most everyone was drunk, so techinically, they passed out. it was 10pm. james and i were woken up later that night to the sounds of sex coming from the next room.
DAY 3
we went to breakfast at first awakenings. the pancakes were awesome. then we drove home.
on the drive home, we played name that tune with my ipod and i learned james is freakishly good at identifying songs. we stopped for dinner at casa vega in studio city where we saw brian austin green (david from 90210!) and peter krause from six feet under. the b-level celebrity spottings continued when i'm pretty sure i saw marc blucas from buffy driving in hollywood.
we met billie, christine and kavita later that night for club 80s. it was tons o' fun although the music was a little too new wave for my taste.
DAY 4
(did you think this blog would end at this point? sucker!)
billie, ellen, james, christine, kavita and i reconvened at haeran's for a labor day bbq. the food was great (thanks, haeran!) and it was cool just sitting around chatting and laughing. we came up with the term sexy/ugly and had a good time applying it to celebrities.
DAY 5
ran unsexy errands most of the day and also solved more sudoku puzzles. thanks jack for introducing me to yet another way to waste my day. at night i hung out at derek (of babylon)'s place in los feliz.
DAY 6
ran more unsexy errands and also went shopping at south coast. went to dinner at musha's for billie's birthday with ellen, james, and of course billie. had interesting conversations about first crushes, first cocks, urinal infections and being "unfulfilled."
more to come...
