Nothing is More Depressing Than...
...reading Message Board comments on Yahoo. Every once in a while, I'll check out the comment section at the end of a news article. And the majority of posters quite proudly reveal their hatred and prejudice. It's really kind of scary. For example, I just read an article about how the Chinese Olympic speed skating team video taped the South Korean team during pratice (which was legal, but upset the South Korean team). Here are a sample of comments from the first few posters:
KatherinS: Typical korean impotence and frothing-at-the-mouth bluster.
helpmejosh2003: screw all them cat eatters
DavidE: Surprised by China cheating? When I was in College, there were a few Chinese chicks that wanted to copy my homework and cheat on my accounting tests. They are good at piracy, which is cheating at its finest. Never trust the Chinese - at ANYTHING - business, friendship, relationships. China is a territorial country run by UN-ENDOWED men.
keita: Koreans and Chineses.....ha ha ha...I hope they both self destruct.
MikeJ: Come to Korea. See how the dirty racist thieving HAN KOOKS TREAT FOREIGNERS...US BRING HOME ALL TROOPS..STOP SUPPORTING THESE DIRTY DEMONS FROM KIMCHI HELL..
Also, there was an article which criticized Vanity Fair's up and coming actress issue. The cover featured about 10 actresses, all of them white. While I don't think Vanity Fair was being racist, I think they weren't being very open-minded about their picks -- especially with Gabourey Sidibe and Zoe Saldana out there. Anyway, the comments were unbelievable. 70% were about how tired these people were of reverse-racism and that everything had to be so PC and no one ever sees white people on the cover of Ebony magazine or on BET. (And btw, even if you took that last idiotic arugment at face value, I would advise them to check out the NAACP Award nomination of Sandra Bullock for Best Actress). To me, it sounded like these people were angry over being told all the time that they are racist... because they ARE racist.
Just when you thought racism was a dying issue...
